Is it possible to lose weight and gain muscle at the same time?

Today's question is Well i started going to the gym about 2 weeks ago or so and i want to lose weight and but i want to gain muscle too, but I've been told that you can't do both at the same time, is it true? This is my workout i do when i go to the gym: I will go on the treadmill for 10-15 minutes or so and will jog most of the time. Then i will go on the Elliptical Trainer for 30 minutes or so. Then i will go into the weights room for 20-30 minutes and work on a muscle group each day, for instance Monday i will do Chest, Then Tuesday i will do Biceps and Triceps, Then Wednesday i will do Back/Shoulders. Then i will start all over again. But I've been told to do that Monday, Wednesday and Friday instead of everyday and then every day use the Treadmill and the Elliptical Trainer. Oh and im 6 ft 2 and 107 kgs. I hope someone can help me out with this, thanks.

Ok, what I can say about this yes dude.. u can burn fat and build muscle with what u are doing if u workout 40 - 60 mins 4 - 5 times a week do about 3 - 4 exercies a muscle and do cardio 3 times a week u can do that.. but your eating plan has to be fully sound.. so basically one gram of protein for each pound u weigh... if its in KGs then multiply that by 2.. you also need to eat 5 - 7 times a day. take whey protein a few times a day and have protein at almost every meal along with good carbs for energy also.. i have not noticed a leg workout day in your schedule.. DO NOT SKIP LEGS! AS THEY ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT... they help you get stronger everywhere else and the release hormones in your body to get u to build muscle! take glutamine as well
