Suggestions for the gym?
I've got this question Hey everybody, I have a one-month free gym pass that I want to make good use of. I generally try to stay active but I'm kind of new to gyms and gym machines. Can anyone suggest a good work out plan for me? I would like to trim down a little bit (about 10 pounds) but mostly I'm just looking to tone up. Any suggestions for a thorough routine? Also, what machines are good for working the abs? I like the elliptical but don't think it really does much for my midsection. Thanks in advance : )
In this case my opinion is I recently joined a gym myself, and was pretty much where you are now, except not active lol. You should do a warm up for cardio be it the treadmill, stairs, elliptical, or bikes for 5 to ten minutes and then do stretches (Never bounce while stretching). It's a good idea to do circuit training. This is picking a variety of machines and exercises that target different muscles and "looping" through them. I do the chest press at a weight where I can do 10-12 reps, but the reps are very hard to do by the end. Also, try to breath out while initiating the exercises and breath in when finishing the rep. Take about 2 seconds to do it (so like two seconds bringing a weight up) and take four seconds to bring it back down, I do this with all resistance or weight training. So chest press, then do legs like legg presses or stairs, then something up top again and back down to your bottom half, never doing the same machine for this part. Once you've done 4-6 excercises rotating top and bottom, go through from the beginning (not the cardio and stretches) again. Ths is circuit training. Studies have also shown that women who work with weights saw greater results than those who don't and as for working your abs, there's the plank, crunches, sit ups, twists and reverse sit ups.
