I exercise six days a week, and watch what I eat. Why don't I feel like I've lost weight?
Are You know decision of this problem? It's been four weeks now, and I don't feel like I've lost any weight. I typically have one cup or less of rice for lunch, as many steamed veggies (black beans, mixed garden veg, or stir fry cabbage) to go with it (which is never more than two cups). For dinner I have between 1-5 ounces of meat, rice, veggies (same list as above). I'm on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet because of health reasons. I try to eat enough fruit, but I don't do very well with that, so I try to drink 100% orange juice. I run 15-20 minutes (10mph) on the elliptical trainer, then do 40 minutes on the stationary bike (21-25 mph). According to the machines, I burn a total of 600-650 calories doing all of this. I also do 20 minutes of light weight training (leg presses, lat pull downs, etc). Why after all of this do I feel like I haven't lost weight. Is it too soon to see results? My tummy appears flatter, but not much of a major difference. I don't smoke, I'm 155ish and want to get down to 135. I eat right, exercise, and still no encouraging results four weeks later.
In this case my opinion is Forget amount of burnts calories machine tells you, it's an "average" number for an average person, which is basically worthless. The reason you aren't losing weight is because you are doing aerobic exercises, running at the same pace (even if it's fairly fast) and doing the same on a stationary bike works great at the start, but soon your body adapts to that type of exercise and starts to spend less and less energy to perform the same task. Randomize your routine and add some unaerobic exercises. Say instead of running slowly for 20 min, you could run slowly for 10, do 100meter sprint for 5 min (say 3 100m sprints in 5m) and run slowly for the last 5 min. I can asure you that you will burn much more calories this way. Also you might look into some supplements, but I'd say you shoud just randomize your exercise to keep your body from adapting, and add some high intensity work outs, like sprints or tabata squats (google it)
