High Intensity vs. Low Intensity?
I've got this question I got a really nice heart rate monitor recently and have been using it during different types of workouts to see how they vary. I know what high and low intensity training generally means, but I don't really know all the schematics of them. I just always thought that the harder you work yourself during a workout, the more calories you burn...but that's not necessarily what my heart rate monitor tells me. I do cardio workouts every morning, but I alternate between HIIT and LIIT. One day I will get on the elliptical and go 3 or 4 minutes intervals that keep my heartrate between 120 and 150; I do this for 45 minutes. Then the next day I have a spin/cycle class I go to that incorporates the HIIT that keeps my heartrate above 160 or so; this is also a 45 minute workout. So after doing this for the past week or so I have noticed that on the days I have my low intensity workouts, I only burn within 100 calories less then I do on the days I have the high intensity workouts. Can someone tell him how that works? I mean on the days I'm on the elliptical I almost feel like it's too easy and I'm wasting my time....but then when I'm at my spin class I'm sweating up a storm! How are the caloric results so close? I've searched the internet a bit and found that a lot of people believe what I had originally thought; that higher intensity equals higher calories burned. But this is proven to not be the case and that both high and low intensity training burns about the same. But can someone tell me how this works??
In this case my opinion is They are not as close as your monitor is telling you and I can 100% assure you that your monitor is WRONG. It is unable to take into account your personal statistics for a start such as what % of your body is fat compared to muscle as well as a million other things. This is the confusing bit: You hear all the time that low intensity exercise is more efficient at burning fat and it is BUT what is never explained is that it is only more effiecient because it burns fat directly. Your body can burn fat directly for energy as it is required ONLY when your body is not under any strain. When it is your body will burn glycogen stores from your muscle tissues for energy and, at a later date, replace it with broken down fat so you still burn the fat, and more than doing low intensity exercise, it just takes a few hours longer for the fat to break down. Keeping this simple because it is quite complicated: If you run for an hour (high intensity) you will burn SIGNIFICANTLY more calories (fat) than if you walk (low intensity) for an hour because you will raise your heart rate higher AND cover more distance/do more work. You always get these monitors doing this and it always confuses people. Throw it away and listen to what your body is telling you. That all aside, high intensity exercise will not only burn more calories but it will stimulate your metabolism to work faster meaning that even when you are not exercising you will burn more calories AND it will make your heart work harder and make you a healthier (and slimmer) person. HARD parametricly defined ellipse problem?
I have such question Given a point P that is coplanar to an ellipse, which is defined by the function R( t ) = C + A * cos( t ) + B * sin ( t ) where A, B, and C are given vectors in space and A and B are NOT orgthogonal to each other, determine if P is "inside" the ellipse. Point P is inside the ellipse if ||P - C|| ||Q - C|, Q is a point on the ellipse and also on the line formed by C and P. The t value of the point on the ellipse is unknown, as well as the point Q. If this can not be done, please tell me why and thanks for trying, otherwise I would like a general algorithm to find out if ||P - C|| > ||Q - C|. Another, equivalent elliptical shape may be generated where A and B are orthogonal, but I have to know how to get that ellipse (I can easily complete the problem with the new shape if I have the equation for it). C can be ignored if it is assumed to be on the origin.
