Elliptical Machine Question?

Are You know decision of this problem? I have tried the elliptical twice now and every time I get on, I feel like my feet are gonna fly off the pedal things and I'm going to get hurt. That scares the crap out of me so I only stay on for a minute or so and then get off. I've heard that the elliptical is one of the best cardio machines out there so I really want to figure out what I'm doing wrong or how I can feel safer on the machine. Any suggestions?

Ok, what I can say about this It helps if you put the resistance up. It is harder to move the pedals, so you won't be going quite as fast, plus you get a better workout. The elliptical is actually my favorite cardio machine! =]
