Elliptical trainer good to loose weight?

Today's question is I use to be really active in high school and the last couple years have been pretty hard, i have been depressed and really stressed out and I want to get back into shape. I am thinking about getting the nordic track commercial 1300 from costco. If i do a workout before school and one at night while watching what I eat should I do pretty good? I want the elliptical trainer due to the low impact on the joints

And I found this way In my opinion,the elliptical trainer is the best cardio machine.
