If there was no matter getting pulled into a black hole, could light orbit in an elliptical orbit?

I've got this question If there was no matter getting pulled into a black hole, could light orbit in an elliptical orbit? It seems to me light could orbit a black hole right at the event horizon in a circular orbit, but could light have an eliptical orbit?

My favorite decision is I believe so, however it would actually be inside the event horizon. The event horizon marks where escape velocity equals the speed of light; however the escape velocity is greater than the orbital velocity at any point by a factor of the square root of 2 (the formulas just work out that way). So there is a region just inside the event horizon, anywhere from .707 the Swartzchild radiius to the Swartzchild radius itself where light can orbit, making it elliptical . 707 is 1 / √2 by the way). Any lower than .707 and light would spiral into the singularity, and any higher than the event horizon and light would escape, of course. But between those two light would be able to orbit but never escape. I don't have a source for this since it's conjecture on my part, but I don't think I've made any mistakes.
