Elliptical Trainer - lose weight?

I've got this question I have just bought an Elliptical machine on recommendation from a friend (gym instructor & teacher) What do you think of these trainers? I am a 27 year old woman just looking to tone up, maybe lose a stone before my wedding, just keeping fit really. Thanks

And I found this way What ever machine you buy to loose weight you still need to cut out bread, cakes, sugar, and processed foods. Main meals: Eat tuna mashed with low fat mayo with olive oil and salad or Stewed chicked and brocolli. This is one serving of protein and one serving of complex carbs (non fattening) On this diet you can use any meat and finish with, or snack with a sweet apple dipped in peanut butter. Eat oatbran or oatmeal for breakfast with an egg white omelette. Cut out milk if you can. Other great diets can be found on bodybuilding.com. (women train as well you know). Good luck
