How can I accurately measure my body fat percentage to make sure that I am gaining muscle and burning fat.?

I have such question I have been dieting and exercising for around 2 weeks and I have not really noticed any change on the scale. I had a personal trainer measure me with calipers 2 weeks ago and I was at 16 percent body fat. I go to the gym 6 days a week and do 4 to 5 days of resistance training and cardio every time I go (at least 3 miles on the elliptical sometimes 5). I also do alot of core strengthening exercises such as planks and the side variations of that. I also do crunches on the half exercise ball. I feel like I am getting somewhere but I may be alot more motivated if I had a way to measure my success. Is there any way that I can measure my body fat percentage by my self or with my girlfriend?

And I found this way Calipers are the most accurate way to measure surface bodyfat. You can get calipers, together with instructions and a graph or table to interpret the measurements, from large fitness-related shops. Big serious-looking metal calipers are pretty expensive; they are only really useful if you're measuring skinfolds on a lot of different people, as a Personal Trainer would. The small disposable plastic type can be just as accurate for home use once you have spent some time getting used to operating them. Another good motivational tool is a long overhead bar or a hand-ladder. As your strength improves, and your body gets more muscular and agile as well as less fatty, exercising on the overhead equipment will get easier. You can track improvements by counting the number of times you can traverse the hand-ladder, or how many pike-pressups you can do over the bar, or the length of time you can maintain 'strength hang' positions, or etc. This strategy puts fat-loss (and weight loss) into its proper context, as you start to understand that you don't need to lose fat in order to improve your bodyfat percentage. Building new muscle mass, and making it work well, will lower the proportion of fat in your body and shift it from the places where it can interfere with movement.
