Not losing weight even with 2 hrs of cardio and 1 hr of yoga 6 days a week. eating less than 1000 calories too
Today's question is i dont know what to do anymore. im 5'4 and 150 lbs. i have a small frame. and my bmi is 25.7 (overweight category). i practically live IN the gym already (for the past month, 4 weeks already) and i still am not losing weight. i eat oatmeal w/ 1 tbsp. honey everyday (breakfast,luch, & dinner) my cardio everyday includes: elliptical machine (where i dont let the speed go below 120, and keep my heart rate at 140) and after, i walk on the treadmill at 5mph for another hour. after that, i attend a yoga class (basic stretching and sun salutations and balance poses). i used to weigh 125, but when i started working overtime a lot, i stopped going to the gym and gained 25 lbs. now i cant seem to get back to my old weight EVEN WHEN IM TRYING SO HARD. i had my thyroid tested already and my thyroid function test came back normal. should i just accept my weight and stop trying so hard? i want to quit already. nothings working.
In this case my opinion is You're over doing it. First off, you're not giving yourself enough calories. Second, you're working out too much. For the workout....The cardio is fine, the yoga is fine, both together is great. You're just doing too much. Believe it or not, there's a point where your body decides to say 'I'm done burning calories' and it stops. That's when workouts become uneffective and useless. Also, if you don't change your workouts, your body will plateau and will actually stop losing weight. Both are reasons why you're not losing anything. You can workout 6 days a week and have it being effective, but it's also good to give your body a break too. Cut back on your cardio. Only do 1 hour of cardio a day. Since the yoga is low intensity, you can use that after your cardio to help you stretch and relax, but even then, I might cut that back to a few days a week, not every day. Or switch it up with a mat Pilates class if it's available (like yoga, works your core muscles more). Also, changing your cardio routine every few weeks will give your body a boost. Stuck on the elliptical? Try a bike or treadmill, or even the 'wave' machine if your gym has one. The wave machine mimics rollerblading. It's an awesome machine, and your legs will burn within a few minutes of use. If you're not already doing it, add in weights to your workout. Weight training will help you burn calories faster, as well as build muscle. For your diet, if all you're eating is 1000 calories a day in the form of nothing but oatmeal, your body is going into starvation mode. That is another reason your body will plateau. It's trying to survive. You're burning more calories than you're taking in, and your body is trying to hold on to the calories so it can survive. You're hurting yourself more than you're helping. Try eating 4-6 small meals each day, spread out over about 3 hours in between each meal. Include a lean meat or eggs (protein), fruit and/or veges, and a grain for carbs with each meal. The protein will help balance everything out, as well as stabilize your blood sugar. If you can't handle eating every few hours, a protein drink such as Boost or Slim Fast will help. By adding more calories to your diet (sounds opposite for a diet), you will give your body something to lose. These little changes will work huge wonders on your diet. I bet you'll also see a rapid weight loss of several pounds within a few days if you change your diet and workout routine. If your gym has personal trainers, talk to them. Most of the time, you can get help without having to pay for it. If you can afford it, I recommend paying for one, and working with them once a month for a few months, until you start seeing results, then you can cut back on your trainer visits. Good luck!!
